Gunslingers to be honored with parade today

White County National Guardsmen, members of Task Force 2-153 (Gunslingers) will be honored this morning with a parade through the streets of Searcy, a luncheon at College Church of Christ, and a seranade of patriotic music from the belltower of First Methodist Church.

The festivities are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., as approximately 190 Gunslingers who reside in White County, are to march from the corner of Spring and Center streets in Searcy, proceed up Spring and down Race Street to College Church of Christ.

A luncheon will be held for the Gunslingers and their families immediately following the parade at College Church of Christ. Senator Mike Beebe is scheduled to speak at the event, as is Major General Don Morrow, adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard.

A quartet from First Baptist Church, consisting of Wayne Johnson, Tina and Jay Niederbrach, and Melanie Maples, will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," Justin Lawson of Regions Bank is scheduled to perform "God Bless the USA," and Wilt Martin of College Church of Christ is to deliver the invocation.

The event, organized by Debra Wolfe of Simmons First Bank, and Michelle Davis of Regions Bank, is jointly sponsored by Central Arkansas Hospital, Entergy, First Arkansas Valley Bank, First Community Bank, First Security Bank, Region Bank, Simmons First Bank, and White County Medical Center.

"These men have done a tremendous service to White County and to America," said Wolfe. "We want to encourage everyone to come out and show their support for the troops and their appreciation for the job they have performed. We want to show them that we are proud of what they have done."
