Searcy soldier dies in accident

A native son of Searcy will be put to rest this Thursday after being killed in a training accident in Georgia as a member of the Army.

Sergeant Michael David Hall was killed Thursday, June 1, when the MH-47 Chinook he was flying upon struck a television antenna tower near Doerun, Ga. Hall was one of four soldiers killed in the crash. Hall was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment known as the Night Stalkers.

Hall was born Dec. 14, 1975, in Little Rock to Lynda C. Hall and Gary G. Hall. He was the youngest of four children and was raised in Searcy. After graduating from Searcy High School, Hall worked for Searcy’s water works for several years before enlisting in the United States Army as an aviation sheet metal operator. Hall was stationed in Germany for two years after completing basic combat training and advanced individual training. He joined the Night Stalkers after completing special operations training and transferring to Hunter Army Field in Georgia.

Hall served his community as a member of the Center Hill volunteer fire department. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Hall’s regiment shared 31 years of combined service and 22 deployments to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Manfred L. Little, the battalion commander, said his unit was “deeply saddened by the deaths. He described the job of the Night Stalkers, who fly special forces commandos behind enemy lines under cover of night, as “inherently dangerous.”

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe. The funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Searcy. Hall will be interned in the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Beebe.
