Intervovernmental Council Meeting

JUNE 6, 2000

An Intergovernmental Council Meeting was held on June 6, 2000, in the White County Courtroom. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the need for a new detention center for the County, the method of financing the project, and if the cities of the County will share the revenue from a proposed 1 cent sales tax.

Jeff Smith, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Those attending were led in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Clerk called the roll of the council.

Mayors attending: Doyle Wallace - Bald Knob;

Donald Ward - Beebe; Leroy Mitchell - Bradford;

James Smith - Griffithville; Max McDonald - Kensett;

Sherrel Bennett - Letona; Farris Wood - Pangburn;

Carletta Pyle - Russell; David Evans - Searcy;

David Hamilton - Westpoint

Quorum Court members attending: Terry Adams,

Mike Cleveland, Cathy Foster, David Freppon, Harvey Goad, George "Bud" Osborn, Paul Overstreet

County Officials attending: Judge Bob Parish,

County Clerk Doug Faith, Treasurer Waylon Heathscott,

Sheriff Jess Odom

After two hours of discussion, the consensus of the Council was that a new detention center was needed and would be funded by a 1 cent sales tax. It was unresolved if the cities would share part of the sales tax. The Mayors that spoke to the Council asked that the revenue be shared. Mr. Smith thanked those who came for their interest and participation.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
