The White County Intergovernmental Council met on October 23, 2000 in the White County Courtroom. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss problems with requirements for area volunteer Fire Departments in completing the paperwork for receiving Act 833 money.

The meeting was attended by several mayors in the County including the mayors of Bald Knob, Beebe, Bradford, Higginson, Judsonia, Kensett, Letona, and West Point. Several members of volunteer Fire Departments in the County along with some Quorum Court members and County Judge Bob Parish and County Clerk Doug Faith also attended.

Mr. Lowell Altom the Fire Service Coordinator explained to the meeting that the paperwork for receiving Act 833 money must be submitted on a timely basis or funds would be denied. There has been some delay in getting the forms to be mailed in, but they should be received by September 1 of each year.

A resolution was discussed that would require fire department to submit the Act 833 forms by October 31 of each year or go unfounded. The forms should be sent by registered mail.

The Council also discussed the County Ordinances that permit the County Judge to prohibit burning during extremely dry periods. Also discussed was the establishment of permanent boundary lines for rural fire associations.

Mayor Sherril Bennett of Letona requested that Act 833 grant money be divided equally among all the rural Fire Departments.

It was announced that fire trucks could be tested at the new Searcy Fire Training Center.
