Building Committee - WCDVP
Karen Miller - Chair
Through the generosity of a local group, we have been blessed to use, rent free, an excellent facility, over the past two years. Our agreement with the owners of the building was to occupy the house on a temporary basis until a permanent location could be found. Last January (1997) we were asked to relocate by the end of the year because the owners had another need for the house. After an exhaustive and unsuccessful search in 1997, our deadline for moving was graciously extended until May 31, 1998.
As the building committee continued its search, choices of location were limited to the Searcy City limits. This decision was based on the availability of resources (jobs, the courts, social services, etc.) for those we serve, and the commitment from the Searcy Police Department to work with us in protecting those in our shelter.
Because our funds are very limited, the committee was hoping for a donated facility, but nothing materialized. We are unable to make an all-out plea for help due to the confidentiality we must maintain. We have, however, made many contacts, and looked at several buildings. We have found those within our price range to be unsuitable because of poor location, or needed repair. One building we seriously considered proved to be infested with termites.
We are continuing our search. Presently, we are looking at a building we feel has great possibilities. The location is good, and though we would have to do some renovating, the building is sound and sturdy. As we relocate we are having to make some big decisions. As a non profit organization it going to be tough going from rent free to monthly payments, and other increased expenses. Please keep our needs in your prayers.
