A computer program is making it easier and faster to purchases marriage licenses in White County.
White County Clerk Tanya Burleson said the program is through Apprentice Information Systems.
She had been working with the company for two years to try to establish a
marriage license program.
"They recently got the program together and implemented it in a couple of other
counties," Burleson said.
White County implemented the program about a week ago.
"We are still working on some of the bugs," Burleson said. "It seems like it is going to be great."
The new system will help the clerk's office service its marriage license customers in a more timely fashion.
"It allows us also to print certified copies of marriage licenses electronically that rather than getting it from
the book and doing it manually," Burleson said.
The program also makes monthly reports to the Division of Vital records easier and faster. At the end of
each month, forms are compiled for vital records.
Burleson said not having to retype the forms will help record keeper Jean Sellers complete her monthly
duties in a more efficient and timely fashion.
"It gives us more time to devote to our other duties," Burleson said Prior to
the computer program, the
information for marriage licenses was taken by hand and then manually typed on the vital records form, the
form for the marriage license book and on the marriage license itself.
Now, the information is entered into the computer one time and by clicking on
different functions, the
|program prints out the vital records form, the marriage license book page and the marriage license itself,
front and back.
The program also helps with those gathering the marriage in- formation for public record.
The program compiles a list of the licenses issued by date, range or book number.
"It is more efficient and accurate. It will save everyone a whole lot of time," Burleson said.
She estimates that marriage license customers' time will be cut in half.
