WHITE COUNTY EXTENSION PROGRAMS HELP CITIZENS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IDENTIFY AND ADDRESS CRITICAL ISSUES IN THEIR COMMUNITY. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING TWO-PART APPROACH.
The Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service offers its programs to all eligible persons regardless of race, color,

FIRST, Extension professionals help local leaders with a variety of economic-based endeavors that range from attracting new business to the community to developing and maintaining the community infrastructure.
SECOND, Extension promotes the development of the community's human resources. Training is provided for community residents and organizations to develop capable leaders who can recognize opportunity and resolve local problems.

4-H YOUTH EDUCATION
4-H is the largest informal educational youth organization in the United States. More than 90,000 Arkansas youth are enrolled in community clubs or special interest groups. In White County, we reached over 2,500 youth in 1996. We have 45 competitive activities held every year and have fourteen 4-H clubs throughout the county.
4-H youth grow through a learn-by doing process and obtain knowledge and skills through project work, leadership, and citizenship programs. Youngsters can choose from more than 80 projects.
Many priceless volunteers facilitate the process of helping 4-H youth learn behavior-acquired traits such as:

LEADERSHIP SKILLS
DECISION-MAKING TECHNIQUES
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
CONCERN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
White County 4-H members are eligible for scholarships, national and international educational journeys, trophies, plaques, certificates, and ribbons for their accomplishments.
Any youth, ages 5-19 are eligible to join 4-H regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or disabilities.
THE COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE HELPS MAKE ARKANSAS A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK. THE PEOPLE OF ARKANSAS FACE CONTINUOS ECONOMIC, ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES. THEIR NEED FOR RESEARCH-BASED INFORMATION HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER. EXTENSION PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO MEET THE CHANGING NEEDS OF BOTH DIVERSE AND TRADITIONAL AUDIENCES. USING THEIR VARIED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUNDS, COUNTY EXTENSION AGENTS HELP INDIVIDUALS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL WHILE SPECIALISTS IN THE STATE OFFICE INTERPRET THE LATEST EXPERIMENT STATION RESEARCH AND DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.
